Things to do in Laramie

Laramie is home to the University of Wyoming, the only public four-year university in the state, and the campus shapes the town’s economy and culture. Research in energy, engineering and agriculture, the university’s hospital and healthcare partners, the railroad and ranching round out the local economy. Founded in 1868 as a Union Pacific town on the high plains at about 7,200 feet, Laramie keeps a walkable historic downtown of brick storefronts, restaurants and breweries, and the Wyoming Territorial Prison, where Butch Cassidy once served time, is now a state historic site.
