Deep Creek Lake is Maryland’s largest freshwater lake, a reservoir created in the 1920s in the mountains of Garrett County, the state’s westernmost corner. Its shoreline is lined with lake homes and vacation rentals, and the area has become a four-season destination, with boating and swimming in summer, fall foliage and skiing at Wisp Resort in winter. Tourism, real estate, construction and outdoor recreation drive the local economy, along with farming in the surrounding countryside.
