Things to do in Florence

Florence is the largest of the four Shoals cities on the Tennessee River in northwest Alabama, alongside Muscle Shoals, Sheffield and Tuscumbia. The area is world famous for music: at FAME Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, artists from Aretha Franklin to the Rolling Stones recorded hits in the 1960s and 1970s, and W.C. Handy, the Father of the Blues, was born in Florence. The economy includes manufacturing, healthcare, TVA operations around Wilson Dam and the University of North Alabama, known for keeping live lions on campus.
