Things to do in Fort Smith

Fort Smith started as a military post on the Arkansas River in 1817, and from 1875 its federal court, presided over by Judge Isaac Parker, had jurisdiction over Indian Territory, making the city the base for the deputy U.S. marshals who rode west. That history now anchors the U.S. Marshals Museum on the riverfront. Today Fort Smith is the industrial center of western Arkansas, with an economy that includes ArcBest trucking and logistics, food processing and heavy industry, as well as the Ebbing Air National Guard Base.
