Things to do in Roswell

Roswell is best known for the 1947 incident that made it the world capital of UFO lore, and its downtown leans into the story with alien-themed streetlights and storefronts. Behind the kitsch is a working regional center for southeastern New Mexico: dairies, alfalfa and pecan farms, ranching, a large cheese plant, healthcare and the New Mexico Military Institute. The Roswell Air Center, a former Air Force base with one of the longest runways in the region, is an aircraft storage and maintenance site where airliners are parked in the dry desert air.
