When you land

Things to do in Lake Havasu City

Lake Havasu City was planned in the 1960s by industrialist Robert McCulloch, who famously bought the London Bridge and had it rebuilt over a channel cut through to an island in the lake. Today the city of more than 50,000 lines the Arizona shore of Lake Havasu, a reservoir on the Colorado River formed by Parker Dam. Tourism, boating and retirement drive the economy, along with healthcare, construction and a cluster of performance boat builders. Winter brings snowbirds from the north, spring brings college crowds and summer weekends bring boaters from Southern California and Phoenix.

  1. 01

    London Bridge

The 1830s bridge that once crossed the Thames was dismantled, shipped to Arizona and reassembled here, and it now spans the Bridgewater Channel beside an English-themed village.

  2. 02

    Bridgewater Channel

This narrow, no-wake waterway beneath the London Bridge is a social hub on warm weekends, with boats rafted along the shore and restaurants and bars along its banks.

  3. 03

    Lake Havasu State Park

Along the lake north of the bridge, the park offers beaches, boat ramps, picnic areas and a nature trail through desert shoreline, with Windsor Beach as its centerpiece.

  4. 04

    Topock Gorge

North of the lake in the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, the Colorado River runs between volcanic cliffs, a scenic paddle with birdlife, coves and ancient petroglyphs.

  5. 05

    Copper Canyon

A cove on the lake’s Arizona shore known for crowds of boaters anchoring together on summer weekends, it is one of Havasu’s best-known gathering spots.

  6. 06

    Lake Havasu Lighthouses

More than two dozen scaled replicas of famous American lighthouses stand along the shoreline and serve as working navigational aids, best seen by boat on a lighthouse cruise.
