Things to do in Columbus

Columbus sits on the Chattahoochee River across from Alabama and is one of Georgia’s largest cities. Fort Benning, the Army’s home of the infantry and armor schools, lies just to the south and brings soldiers, families and contractors to town year-round.     After the removal of two old mill dams, the river through downtown became an urban whitewater course, with guided rafting trips and ziplines that cross between Georgia and Alabama.
