Things to do in Savannah

Savannah was laid out by James Oglethorpe in 1733 on a grid of public squares, and that plan still shapes one of the largest urban historic districts in the country.     Savannah’s largest park is famous for its white cast-iron fountain and oak-lined paths, and it hosts a Saturday farmers market, concerts and plenty of picnics on the lawn.

    A mile-and-a-half avenue lined with hundreds of live oaks leads to the tabby ruins of a colonial estate built by Noble Jones, one of Georgia’s first settlers.
