Fayetteville is a small mountain town on the rim of the New River Gorge, and it has become the adventure capital of West Virginia since the gorge was designated a national park and preserve in 2020. The New River, one of the oldest rivers in North America, carves a deep canyon through the region, crossed by the New River Gorge Bridge, one of the longest single-span arch bridges in the world.
