Things to do in Albany

Albany is the hub of southwest Georgia, a region where peanuts, pecans, cotton and timber are the backbone of the economy. The city is also home to the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Albany State University and a regional medical center, and it is surrounded by historic plantations managed for quail hunting. Albany played an important role in the civil rights movement, and its downtown on the Flint River includes a plaza honoring native son Ray Charles.
