Things to do in Birmingham

Birmingham was founded after the Civil War as an iron and steel town, and the Vulcan statue on Red Mountain still nods to that past. Today the city’s largest employer is the University of Alabama at Birmingham, whose academic medical center draws patients and researchers from across the South, and the metro area is also a banking and insurance center, home to Regions Financial and a number of other major companies.
