Things to do in Nassau

Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and home to most of its people, set on the small island of New Providence. Tourism and financial services carry the economy: banks, trust companies and law firms line the streets around Bay Street and the western business district, while cruise ships tie up at Prince George Wharf downtown. Across the harbor bridge, Paradise Island holds the Atlantis resort, and on the west side Cable Beach has become a strip of large hotels anchored by Baha Mar. Colonial forts, the pink government buildings of Parliament Square and a serious food scene built on conch and fresh fish round out the city.

    A long flight of steps carved from limestone by enslaved laborers in the late 1700s climbs a shaded gorge to Fort Fincastle and the water tower, with sweeping views over the harbor.
