Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and home to most of its people, set on the small island of New Providence. Tourism and financial services carry the economy: banks, trust companies and law firms line the streets around Bay Street and the western business district, while cruise ships tie up at Prince George Wharf downtown. Across the harbor bridge, Paradise Island holds the Atlantis resort, and on the west side Cable Beach has become a strip of large hotels anchored by Baha Mar. Colonial forts, the pink government buildings of Parliament Square and a serious food scene built on conch and fresh fish round out the city.
From South Florida, Nassau is a short over-water flight, and flying privately lets you leave at the hour you choose rather than on an airline’s timetable. It also makes Nassau a natural pivot point: fly in for meetings, then continue directly to Exuma, Eleuthera or Andros without connecting through the main terminal. Travelers need a passport, clear Bahamas customs and immigration on arrival and clear U.S. customs on the way home. Booking the whole Cirrus for one price keeps a family or a small team together from door to dock.

Things to do in Nassau
When to go. Mid-December through April is Nassau’s high season, with dry, breezy days in the high 70s and low 80s and calm water for boating. Junkanoo, the Bahamas’ signature street festival of costumes, cowbells and goatskin drums, parades along Bay Street in the early hours of Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Summers are hot and humid, and hurricane season runs from June through November, peaking in late summer and early fall.

The resort’s marine habitats, water park and casino fill much of Paradise Island, and its lagoons and aquariums hold sharks, rays and thousands of tropical fish visible from underground walkways.
- 03
Arawak Cay Fish Fry
Brightly painted shacks west of downtown serve conch salad made to order, cracked conch, fried snapper and Kalik beer, and the strip stays busy with locals well into the night.

Downtown Nassau and Bay Street
Colonial buildings, the Straw Market, duty-free shops and the pink Parliament buildings line the historic waterfront, a short walk from the cruise piers and Rawson Square.
- 05

Housed on the historic Buena Vista estate in the hills above downtown, this rum distillery offers tours, tastings and a shaded veranda bar in an 18th-century colonial setting.
