Things to do in Dayton

Dayton is where Wilbur and Orville Wright ran their bicycle shop, built their early aircraft and taught themselves to fly at Huffman Prairie, and aviation still defines the region. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, home to the Air Force Materiel Command and the Air Force Research Laboratory, is one of the largest single-site employers in Ohio, and a cluster of defense contractors, engineering firms and research labs has grown up around it. The University of Dayton, Wright State University and the Premier and Kettering health systems round out the economy.

National Museum of the United States Air Force

  3. 03

This 65-acre history museum along the Great Miami River holds the original 1905 Wright Flyer III, restored historic buildings, a working brewery and a 151-foot carillon tower.

  4. 04

    Oregon District

Dayton’s oldest neighborhood mixes 19th-century homes with a lively stretch of East Fifth Street lined with restaurants, bars, coffee shops and independent stores.

    Yellow Springs and Glen Helen

East of Dayton, the village of Yellow Springs offers galleries and cafes, while Glen Helen Nature Preserve and neighboring Clifton Gorge offer wooded trails along limestone cliffs.
