Things to do in Marquette

Marquette is the largest city in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, set on the rocky shore of Lake Superior and long tied to the iron mines of the nearby Marquette Iron Range. A massive ore dock still loads freighters in the harbor, and the city’s sandstone buildings date from the mining boom. Today the economy rests on Northern Michigan University, the region’s major hospital, government, mining and a growing outdoor recreation and tourism industry, and the city has become a magnet for mountain bikers, skiers and people seeking a slower pace of life.
