Fargo is North Dakota’s largest city and the business center of the Red River Valley, some of the most productive farmland in the country. Agriculture and the companies that serve it, from equipment makers to lenders, remain central to the economy, and Bobcat is headquartered in neighboring West Fargo. Technology is a major employer too: Microsoft has a large campus here, which grew out of its purchase of Fargo-born Great Plains Software, and Sanford Health, Essentia Health and North Dakota State University add thousands of jobs in medicine and research.

Hector International Airport is minutes from downtown, but nonstop airline service reaches only a handful of hubs, and the drive to Minneapolis takes about three and a half hours. Flying private lets executives, farmers and physicians reach towns across the Dakotas and Minnesota directly and return the same day. Visitors find a lively downtown along Broadway with restaurants, breweries and the historic Fargo Theatre, NDSU Bison football at the Fargodome, and museums on both sides of the Red River, including the Viking ship at Moorhead’s Hjemkomst Center.
