Things to do in Erie

Erie is Pennsylvania’s only port on the Great Lakes, a manufacturing city on Lake Erie whose economy has long included locomotives, plastics, metal parts and insurance, with Erie Insurance headquartered downtown. Health care, higher education at Gannon University, Penn State Behrend and Mercyhurst, and tourism round out the local economy. The city also has deep naval history, as the place where Oliver Hazard Perry’s fleet was built for the War of 1812.
