Things to do in Livingston

Livingston was founded in 1882 by the Northern Pacific Railway, and for decades it was the place where passengers changed trains for the branch line to Yellowstone’s north entrance. The historic downtown still has its brick storefronts, saloons and grand railroad depot, now joined by galleries, bookstores and restaurants. Writers, artists and filmmakers have long gravitated here, and the economy today mixes tourism, outfitting, ranching, healthcare and the many second homes and ranches of Paradise Valley, which stretches south along the Yellowstone River toward the park.

The 1902 Northern Pacific depot, designed by the architects of New York’s Grand Central Terminal, houses a museum of railroad history and the region’s past.
