Things to do in Vail

Vail opened as a ski area in 1962, founded in part by veterans of the 10th Mountain Division who had trained nearby at Camp Hale during World War II. The resort grew into one of the largest single-mountain ski areas in North America, and the town below it was designed from the start around pedestrian villages with a Tyrolean feel. Tourism, real estate and resort operations drive the economy of the Eagle River Valley, which also includes Beaver Creek, Edwards and a large population of second-home owners.
