Cheyenne grew up as a Union Pacific railroad town in 1867 and has been Wyoming’s capital since statehood. Its economy rests on state government, F. E. Warren Air Force Base, home to a Minuteman III missile wing, and the railroad, along with logistics, healthcare and a growing cluster of large data centers drawn by cool weather, affordable power and Wyoming’s business climate. The NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center sits just west of town. Wyoming’s favorable tax environment also brings a steady stream of business visitors and newcomers.
