Things to do in Billings

Billings is Montana’s largest city and the trade, medical and financial center for a vast region of eastern Montana and northern Wyoming. It sits along the Yellowstone River beneath the Rimrocks, sandstone cliffs that frame the city. Energy is a major part of the economy, with several oil refineries in and near town, along with agriculture, rail and trucking, and two large hospital systems draw patients from hundreds of miles around.     About an hour southeast on the Crow Reservation, the monument preserves the site of the 1876 battle, with a visitor center, memorials and a driving tour of the ridges.

    East of town along the Yellowstone River, this sandstone butte carries William Clark’s carved signature and date, the only physical evidence of the expedition still visible on the trail.
