Things to do in Scranton

Scranton grew up as a hub of anthracite coal and railroads in northeastern Pennsylvania, and its industrial history is still visible in old mine sites, rail yards and grand downtown buildings. Today the city and its neighbor Wilkes-Barre form a region built on health care, higher education, government, distribution and manufacturing, with the University of Scranton and Geisinger among the larger employers. Its location along Interstates 81, 84 and 476 has made it a major distribution hub serving the Northeast.
