Things to do in Stockton

Stockton sits on the San Joaquin River at the eastern edge of the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, and a deepwater ship channel makes it one of California’s inland seaports. The Port of Stockton handles bulk cargo such as fertilizer, cement and agricultural products, and the surrounding area along Interstate 5 and Highway 99 has become a major hub for warehousing and distribution. San Joaquin County agriculture, including cherries, walnuts, almonds and wine grapes, remains central to the economy, and University of the Pacific anchors the city’s north side.

    Haggin Museum

  2. 02

    Lodi Wine Country

North of Stockton, Lodi’s family wineries are known for old-vine Zinfandel, with relaxed tasting rooms set among vineyards that in some cases date back more than a century.

  3. 03

    Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta

Hundreds of miles of waterways, levees and islands west of the city offer houseboating, bass fishing, waterskiing and riverside restaurants.

  4. 04

    Micke Grove Regional Park

Between Stockton and Lodi, this county park holds a zoo, a Japanese garden, a historical museum and shaded picnic areas under old oaks.

  5. 05

    Bob Hope Theatre

This restored 1930 movie palace downtown hosts concerts, comedy and touring shows in a richly decorated auditorium.

  6. 06

    University of the Pacific

California’s first chartered university moved to Stockton in 1924, and its campus of brick buildings and redwoods is a pleasant place to stroll.
