Things to do in Newport

Newport is the busiest working port on the central Oregon coast, set on Yaquina Bay with a fishing fleet that lands Dungeness crab, rockfish, shrimp and albacore. Ocean science is a big part of the town’s identity, with Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center and NOAA’s Pacific marine operations base on the bay, and tourism, fishing and seafood processing make up much of the economy. The Historic Bayfront, Nye Beach’s cottages and inns, and two lighthouses give it plenty of character.

    On Yaquina Bay, the aquarium features sea otters, seals and seabirds outdoors and walk-through tunnels surrounded by sharks and rays.
