Things to do in Lake Placid

Lake Placid is the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks and one of the few places in the world to have hosted the Winter Olympics twice, in 1932 and 1980. That Olympic legacy still defines the village, with training facilities, ski jumps, a bobsled track and arenas that continue to host international competitions. Main Street runs along Mirror Lake with outfitters, restaurants and shops, while rustic great camps and lakeside lodges serve visitors who come for skiing, hiking, paddling and fishing.

    The Olympic alpine venue offers the greatest vertical drop in the Northeast, and in summer the Veterans Memorial Highway climbs nearly to the summit for views across the High Peaks.

    Inside the Olympic Center, the museum tells the story of the 1932 and 1980 Games, including the Miracle on Ice, when the U.S. hockey team defeated the Soviet Union.
