Things to do in Spokane

Spokane is the largest city between Seattle and Minneapolis and the commercial center of the Inland Northwest, a region that takes in eastern Washington, north Idaho and parts of Montana and Oregon. Healthcare is its biggest employer, with major hospital systems drawing patients from hundreds of miles around, alongside Gonzaga University, Washington State University’s health sciences campus, Fairchild Air Force Base, manufacturing, agriculture and a growing tech and aerospace supply sector. The city hosted the 1974 World’s Fair, which turned an old rail yard by the Spokane Falls into the downtown park that defines it today.

  1. 01

    Riverfront Park

The former Expo ’74 site downtown includes the restored Looff Carrousel, a covered skating ribbon and a gondola that carries riders over the roaring Spokane Falls.

  2. 02

    Manito Park

On the South Hill, this historic park combines a formal European-style garden, a rose garden, a conservatory and a tranquil Japanese garden created with Spokane’s sister city Nishinomiya.

  3. 03

Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture

In the historic Browne’s Addition neighborhood, the MAC presents regional history, American Indian collections and art exhibitions, and offers tours of the adjacent 1898 Campbell House.

  4. 04

    The Historic Davenport Hotel

Opened in 1914 and lavishly restored, the Davenport’s ornate lobby and ballrooms are a downtown landmark worth a visit even if you are staying elsewhere.

  5. 05

    Spokane River Centennial Trail

This paved trail follows the Spokane River from Nine Mile Falls through downtown to the Idaho state line, where it connects with trails continuing toward Coeur d’Alene.

  6. 06

    Mount Spokane State Park

About 30 miles northeast of downtown, Washington’s largest state park offers skiing and snowshoeing in winter and summit views across three states on summer hikes.
