Manchester is a southern Vermont resort town in the valley between the Taconic Range and the Green Mountains, where grand summer homes and inns have drawn visitors since the 19th century. Manchester Village, with its marble sidewalks and the Equinox resort, sits beside Manchester Center’s designer outlets, bookstores and restaurants. The town is also the home of Orvis, whose flagship store and fly-fishing school trace back to 1856, and the American Museum of Fly Fishing.

Manchester is about three and a half hours from Boston and four from New York City by car, with the last stretch on two-lane roads that can slow in winter.
