Daytona Beach is synonymous with speed. Racing began on its hard-packed sand more than a century ago, and today Daytona International Speedway hosts the Daytona 500, the Rolex 24 and a calendar of events that brings enormous crowds. NASCAR is headquartered here, and the city is also an aviation town, home to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's flagship campus, with healthcare, manufacturing and tourism rounding out the economy.

Leisure travelers come for the wide beach where you can still drive and park on the sand in designated areas, the motorcycle rallies, golf, and easy access to St. Augustine, New Smyrna Beach and the Space Coast. On race weekends, the roads around the Speedway and the I-95 and I-4 interchange fill up fast, and hotels book out well in advance. Flying privately gets you in and out without spending hours in traffic, which is exactly why many teams, sponsors and fans arrive by air. Outside the big events, the shoulder seasons bring quieter beaches and good weather for golf and fishing.
