Rockford is Illinois’s largest city outside the Chicago area and has long been one of the Midwest’s great machine-tool and manufacturing centers. Aerospace is the backbone of that economy today, with major operations for Collins Aerospace and Woodward along with hundreds of suppliers, fastener makers and precision machine shops. Chicago Rockford International Airport is also a busy air cargo hub and aircraft maintenance base, and the city’s hospitals serve a wide swath of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

Rockford sits on the Rock River about 90 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, and traffic on I-90 can make that drive unpredictable. For suppliers, auditors and executives visiting several plants, a private flight into Rockford or to another nearby airfield can turn a long round trip into a short day. Visitors enjoy some of the finest gardens in the region, including Anderson Japanese Gardens and Klehm Arboretum, family museums with genuine dinosaur fossils and easy access to state parks and the lakes of southern Wisconsin.
