Mesquite is a resort and retirement town in the Virgin River valley on Nevada’s border with Arizona, about an hour and a half northeast of Las Vegas. It grew from a small farming community into a destination for golfers and retirees, with several championship courses, casino resorts and new residential developments set against red-rock hills. Tourism, gaming, golf and healthcare drive the local economy, and the town’s winter population swells with snowbirds from colder states who come for months of sunshine on the fairways.

Mesquite Airport is close to town, and flying private there avoids the drive along Interstate 15 from Las Vegas or Salt Lake City. That makes Mesquite practical for golf trips, second-home visits and stops on the way to St. George, about 40 minutes up the interstate, and Zion National Park beyond it. Visitors come for golf at courses like Wolf Creek, the town’s relaxed casinos and day trips to the Valley of Fire and the Virgin River Gorge.
