Worcester is the second-largest city in New England and the hub of central Massachusetts. Once a center of wire, machinery and abrasives manufacturing, it now leans on healthcare, higher education and life sciences, anchored by UMass Chan Medical School, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the College of the Holy Cross and Clark University, as well as biomanufacturing companies in and around the city. Its downtown has seen steady reinvestment, including Polar Park, home of the Red Sox’s Triple-A affiliate.

Worcester sits about 40 miles west of Boston on the Massachusetts Turnpike, and the drive to Logan can easily stretch past an hour in traffic. Worcester Regional Airport, on a hilltop on the city’s western edge, puts you minutes from campuses, hospitals and offices along I-290, and makes direct trips to New York, the Cape or the Berkshires simple. Visitors come for college visits, the Worcester Art Museum, Canal District restaurants and bars and the reservoirs, orchards and hiking trails of the surrounding countryside.
