Charleston was founded in 1670, and its peninsula of church steeples, cobblestone streets, pastel row houses and walled gardens is one of the best-preserved historic cities in the country. That beauty has made it a top destination for weddings, food lovers and leisure travelers, but Charleston also has a fast-growing economy: Boeing assembles 787 Dreamliners in North Charleston, the Port of Charleston is one of the busiest on the East Coast, and the Medical University of South Carolina, the College of Charleston and a growing technology sector bring a steady stream of business visitors.

Charleston International shares its runways with Joint Base Charleston and handles most of the region’s traffic, while Charleston Executive Airport on Johns Island is closer to Kiawah and Seabrook and Mount Pleasant’s airport serves the East Cooper suburbs. Flying private lets you land close to where you are staying and skip connections through Atlanta or Charlotte. Visitors come for the restaurants and oyster bars, the antebellum plantations along the Ashley River, Fort Sumter, the beaches of Sullivan’s Island and Folly Beach, and championship golf at Kiawah Island.
