Park City was a silver-mining boomtown in the late 1800s and reinvented itself as a ski destination, hosting events at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Today it is home to Park City Mountain, one of the largest ski resorts in the United States, and Deer Valley, known for its groomed slopes and upscale service. Tourism, real estate and second homes drive the economy, and many residents commute to or run businesses in Salt Lake City, just over Parleys Summit.
Park City is within easy driving distance of Salt Lake City’s main airport, but winter storms and weekend traffic on Interstate 80 can slow the trip, and connecting flights add time to every visit. Heber Valley Airport, a short drive away, offers a convenient alternative for private flights, putting you close to the lifts and to Deer Valley’s base areas. Summer visitors come for golf, mountain biking, hiking, concerts and the Utah Olympic Park, while winter brings world-class skiing and the town’s busy restaurant and après scene.
