Moab is a small town on the Colorado River that has become one of the world’s best-known outdoor destinations, surrounded by red-rock canyons, arches and mesas. Arches National Park sits just outside town, and Canyonlands National Park is a short drive away. Once a uranium-mining center, Moab now runs on tourism, outfitters, restaurants and lodging, and it is famous among mountain bikers, off-road drivers, river runners and climbers.

Moab is remote, about four hours from Salt Lake City and nearly six from Denver by car. Canyonlands Regional Airport, north of town, has a long runway and puts private flights about a half hour from the arches and trailheads. Flying private lets you make a long weekend of the parks without spending most of it on the road. Once there, visitors hike to Delicate Arch, raft the Colorado, mountain bike the Slickrock Trail and drive the scenic byways along the river.
