Springfield is the commercial capital of southwest Missouri and the gateway to the Ozarks. It is the home of Bass Pro Shops, whose original Outdoor World store still anchors the company’s headquarters, and of O’Reilly Auto Parts, while CoxHealth and Mercy make it a regional medical center. Missouri State University, Drury University and Evangel University give the city a large student population, and its role in naming U.S. Route 66 in 1926 lets it claim the title of the highway’s birthplace. Locals will also tell you that Springfield-style cashew chicken was invented here.

Springfield–Branson National Airport is close to town, but airline connections from smaller cities often route through distant hubs, which can turn a short trip into a full day. Flying private makes it easy to visit Bass Pro or O’Reilly, check on operations around the Ozarks, or connect to Branson, the Lake of the Ozarks and northwest Arkansas without hours on two-lane roads. Visitors who stay a little longer find Civil War history at Wilson’s Creek, ride-through caverns and some of the best fishing and floating in the region.
