Kansas City straddles the Missouri–Kansas state line, and its economy reaches across both sides: Hallmark, H&R Block and engineering firms such as Burns & McDonnell and Black & Veatch are based here, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City oversees a district that stretches to the Rockies, and the region is a center for animal health, logistics and data centers. It is also a city with a strong personal identity, built on stockyard-era barbecue, the jazz that grew up around 18th and Vine, fountains in nearly every neighborhood and an intense loyalty to the Chiefs and Royals.

The metro sprawls widely, and Kansas City International sits well north of downtown. Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, just across the river from the central business district, puts private travelers a short drive from Crossroads galleries, the Power & Light District and offices along the Country Club Plaza, while Johnson County Executive serves the Kansas suburbs. Flying private is an easy way to connect with ranches, lake houses at the Lake of the Ozarks or meetings across the Plains in a single day, and to arrive in time for kickoff.

Things to do in Kansas City

When to go. April through June and September through October bring the most comfortable weather in Kansas City. Fall is especially lively, with Chiefs games at Arrowhead from September onward and the American Royal, a long-running livestock show and barbecue competition. The Plaza lights glow from Thanksgiving through the holidays. Summers are hot and humid with occasional severe thunderstorms, and winters bring cold snaps and some snow.
