Canton is where the National Football League was born in 1920, and today it is best known as home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, whose enshrinement festivities draw fans from every NFL city each summer. The city also carries a long industrial history: Timken, the bearings and power transmission company, is headquartered in North Canton, steel is still produced in the area and manufacturing remains a major employer across Stark County. Canton was also the hometown of President William McKinley, whose memorial and presidential library stand on a hill above town.

Akron-Canton Airport sits just north of the city, and flying privately makes a Hall of Fame weekend, a plant visit or a family gathering simple to arrange, with no need to drive in from Cleveland or Pittsburgh. During enshrinement week in particular, when hotels and roads fill, arriving on your own schedule takes a lot of stress out of the trip. Beyond football, visitors can tour the First Ladies National Historic Site, browse the Canton Museum of Art and the downtown arts district, shop the Hartville Marketplace and drive southwest into the quiet farm country of Ohio’s Amish community in Holmes County.
