Cincinnati is one of the Midwest’s leading corporate cities, home to the headquarters of Procter & Gamble, Kroger and Fifth Third Bank, with GE Aerospace’s jet engine business based in suburban Evendale and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital ranked among the best pediatric hospitals in the country. The city’s German heritage shows in Over-the-Rhine, one of the largest historic districts in the United States, where restored Italianate buildings now house breweries, restaurants and shops. Across the Ohio River, Covington and Newport in Kentucky are part of the same metro area.

The region’s main airline airport is actually in Kentucky, southwest of downtown, so private flying can save real time. Lunken Field sits in the river valley about five miles east of downtown, close to the eastern suburbs and corporate offices, and flights from there reach other regional airports across the Midwest and South directly. Visitors come for the Reds and Bengals on the riverfront, the Cincinnati Art Museum in Eden Park, Findlay Market and a local food culture built around Cincinnati chili and goetta, and the distilleries of Kentucky’s bourbon country are within easy reach to the south.

Things to do in Cincinnati

When to go. Spring and fall are Cincinnati’s most pleasant seasons. The Reds’ Opening Day is practically a city holiday, with the Findlay Market Parade winding through downtown. September brings Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in the country, and the Labor Day weekend riverfront fireworks draw huge crowds. Summers are hot and humid but busy with baseball, and winters are cold with occasional snow and ice.
