Atlanta is the business center of the Southeast. Coca-Cola, Delta, Home Depot and UPS are headquartered here, and Georgia Tech, Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention anchor a deep base of research and healthcare. Film and television production, logistics, fintech and a long list of regional offices keep executives, crews and consultants moving through the metro area every day, while the city’s role in the civil rights movement draws visitors from around the world.

Hartsfield-Jackson is one of the busiest airports on earth, and getting through it on a tight schedule can eat a morning. Private flights use the region’s business-aviation airfields instead, such as DeKalb-Peachtree near Buckhead and Fulton County’s Brown Field west of downtown, with quick access to the neighborhoods where people live and work. From there it is a short flight to a board meeting in Charlotte, a weekend on Sea Island or a tee time at Lake Oconee. Visitors stay for the Atlanta BeltLine, the High Museum, Braves games at Truist Park and a dining scene that ranges from Buford Highway’s immigrant kitchens to chef-driven Westside restaurants.

Things to do in Atlanta

When to go. Spring is Atlanta’s showpiece season, when dogwoods and azaleas bloom and the Atlanta Dogwood Festival fills Piedmont Park in April. Fall brings mild, dry weather and college football, capped in early December by the SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Summers are hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms, and the Peachtree Road Race takes over on the Fourth of July. Winters are generally mild, though an occasional ice storm can snarl roads.
