El Paso sits at the far western edge of Texas, closer to Phoenix than to Houston, and shares a border and a metro region with Ciudad Juárez across the Rio Grande. That position makes it a center of cross-border manufacturing, trade and logistics, while Fort Bliss, one of the Army’s largest installations, and a growing healthcare and university sector bring a constant stream of officials, contractors, researchers and military families.

Distance defines travel here. El Paso is a long day’s drive from most of Texas, and airline trips to other parts of the state often route through a major hub, turning a short business visit into a full day each way. A direct private flight brings regional destinations across West Texas and southern New Mexico within easy reach for a same-day meeting. Visitors come for the Franklin Mountains rising right out of the city, Mexican food with deep regional roots, centuries-old missions and the desert landscapes just across the state line in New Mexico, including the brilliant white dunes of White Sands.

Things to do in El Paso

When to go. El Paso enjoys sunshine most of the year, and its high desert climate makes spring and fall especially pleasant, with warm days and cool evenings. Winters are mild and dry, a good time for hiking the Franklin Mountains and climbing at Hueco Tanks, though spring can be windy. Summers are hot, with afternoon thunderstorms during the monsoon season. Late December brings the Sun Bowl, one of college football’s oldest bowl games.
