Houston runs on energy, and much of the industry’s business still gets done face to face: in downtown towers, along the Energy Corridor on the west side and at the refineries and petrochemical plants that stretch toward the coast. Add the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, the Port of Houston and NASA’s Johnson Space Center, and you have a city where executives, physicians and engineers are constantly moving between meetings across a metro area that sprawls in every direction.

That sprawl is exactly why private flying makes sense here. Instead of fighting freeway traffic to reach a major hub and then connecting through it, you can depart from an airfield on whichever side of town your day actually starts and fly direct to a smaller airport close to your meeting, a ranch or a coastal town, then be home the same evening. Leisure travelers come for the Museum District, a restaurant culture shaped by Vietnamese, Mexican, Nigerian and Gulf Coast cooking, big-league sports and the beaches of Galveston Island, about an hour to the southeast.

Things to do in Houston

When to go. Houston is most comfortable from October through April, when the humidity eases and patio season arrives. Late February into March brings the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a three-week run of concerts, livestock shows and barbecue that fills hotels across the city. Summers are long, hot and humid, and June through November is Atlantic hurricane season, so build some flexibility into plans during those months.
