Cookeville is the hub of Tennessee’s Upper Cumberland region, set on the western edge of the Cumberland Plateau along Interstate 40 between Nashville and Knoxville. Tennessee Technological University, known for its engineering programs, is a major presence, and Cookeville Regional Medical Center, manufacturing plants and regional retail round out the economy. The town has grown steadily as a quieter alternative to the big cities, and its downtown around the historic depot has restaurants and shops.

Cookeville is about 80 miles east of Nashville and 100 miles west of Knoxville, and Upper Cumberland Regional Airport, just outside town, provides a direct route for university events, business meetings and weekend escapes. The region’s real draw is water: Center Hill Lake and Dale Hollow Lake, known for clear water and record smallmouth bass, are nearby, with marinas, houseboats and lake homes. The area also has some of Tennessee’s most beautiful waterfalls, including Burgess Falls and Cummins Falls, along with Window Cliffs State Natural Area and Fall Creek Falls State Park on the plateau to the south. Families visiting Tennessee Tech or lake houses can fly in without the long drive.
